Inhalation

Steam Inhalation- Boil 2 cups of water.  Pour the water into a bowl and add 3-7 drops of oil to the water.

Use few drops if you are using an oil that may cause irritation to your mucous membranes (i.e. cinnamon, eucalyptus, rosemary, pine, thyme, etc.

Place your nose about 12" away from the bowl and inhale.  Don't inhale the steam constantly and if you notice any irritation or discomfort, stop immediately.

Steam inhalation can help with colds and influenza.  Use of energizing or relazing oils can also make this method useful any time of day or night.

Easy Inhalation-

Place 3-4 drios of essential oil on a tissue or cotton ball.  Place near your nose and inhale,

When trying an oil for the first time, u

se only one drop to ensure that you do not have a sensitivity or reaction to the oil.

Room Freshening:

-Using an electric potpourri pot, fill with very warm water and plug in.  Add 6-8 drops of your favorites oils.  The room will scent up nicely.

-Scenting your room can also be accomplished with use of a diffuser as pictured on the right.  Add some warm water to the bowl on top, light the tea light and add 3-4 drops of your favorite oils.  The nice thing about using the diffuser is that when the tea light is done burning you don't have to worry about remembering to unplug your potpourri pot.

-Candle warmers have become very popular.  Instead of lighting the wick, you simply place the candle jar on the warming pad and as the wax heats up the scent is released.

-Over time, the wax level stays the same but the fragrance oil will totally dissipate.  This is a great way to add a new scent to your candle with essential oils.  Just add 7-8 drops of essential oils and you have created your own aromatherapy candle.  Just keep repeating these steps as you notice the scent dissipating again.

Scenting Your Potpourri:  Mix your desired assortment of dried flowers, petals, leaves, wood chips etc.

Choose a bowl that you would like to display your potpourri in and place your potpourri into this bowl.

Choosing a glass or glazed ceramic bowl works best as the essential oils you add can absorb into porous surfaces.

Add 5-8 drops of your blend of essential oils onto your potpourri.

Based on the strength of the chosen blend and the amount of your potpourri materials, you may need to adjust the number of drops that you use.

When the aroma weakens, add more drops of the blend to refreshen the aroma.

Bathing

Bathing with pure essential oils is one of life's greatest pleasures.  The oils lend their healing powers to the warm bathwater and naturally diffuse aromatic magic all around you.  Add some soothing music and a candle glowing nearby and have a completely wonderful experience.

Sore and overworked muscles are soothed enough to allow restful sleep by steeping in a warm tub laced with nature's helpers-pure essential oils and herbs.

Essential oils should be added to a bath just before you enter the tub.

If added to the water while the tub is filling, much of the oils precious essences goes up in steam and very little is left to be absorbed by the skins.

Once you've added the oils, be sure to mix them into the water well.  Less is best, remember essential oils are very concentrated.

Bath Salts- Adding Essential Oils to Unscented Natural Mineral Bath Salts are a great way to help remove the toxins in your body  and experience aromatherapy all at the same  time.  It is a wonderful experience.

Massage

Always dilute oils with a carrier oils before applying them to the skin.

Use a carrier oil such as Sweet Almond Oil, Grapeseed Oil, Jojoba Oil or any other pure, unblended vegetable oil.

Do not use "baby's oil", this is a mineral oil and unlike vegetable oils will not be absorbed by the skin.

3-5 drops of essential oils to 10 mls of a carrier oils is about right.
